Cracker Barrel: I Can't Trust This Story Yet (Rating Downgrade)

It's been a few months since I did my analysis of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. ( CBRL ), and it was right around the time of the rebranding, when everyone was talking about the logo change. My rating was a hold, even though I believed at the time that the company needed a change and a turnaround; everything still seemed very uncertain to me, as I mentioned in the excerpt below:

“So I don't think it's worth giving Cracker Barrel the benefit of the doubt just yet. It seems much more like a “show me” story to me. And beyond the uncertainties, one of the issues is valuation.”
