ERH: Better Than A Junk Bond Fund In The Current Environment
2025-11-24 17:27:07 ET
The Allspring Utilities and High Income Fund ( ERH ) is a closed-end fund, or CEF, that investors can purchase as a means of earning a very high level of income from the assets that they already possess. The fund does fairly well at the provision of income, as it provides its investors with an 8.17% yield at the current share price. This is significantly higher than the current yields of most of the domestic utility indices, which, given the fact that the fund’s name states that it invests in utilities, would seem to be a reasonable comparison:
Index/ETF | Current Yield |
Utilities Select Sector Index ( XLU ) | 2.62% |
Russell 1000 Utilities RIC 22.5/45 Capped Index ( IDU ) | 2.17% |
MSCI US Investable Market Utilities 25/50 Index ( VPU ) | 2.60% |
Dow Jones Utility Average | 2.79%* |
