Southern Company ( SO ) is trading at a strong premium as investor enthusiasm over the sustained growth in energy demand for artificial intelligence spills over into securities that provide exposure to what's set to be a decade-long sustained uptake of applications using the technology. Despite this premonition, I've been picking up its common shares. The Southeast-focused electric utility last declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.74 per share , kept unchanged from its prior distribution, and $2.96 per share annualized for a 3.26% dividend yield. The dividend yield currently sits at a multi-year low following a sustained rise in the price of the common shares. However, the recent dividend represented a 2.77% rise over the prior year, and the company is projecting electric load growth of 8% from 2025 to 2029. This should drive earnings per share ("EPS") gains through to the end of the decade and form the foundations for further dividend raises....
