Hancock Whitney Finally Makes Sense, If Only Barely, To Bank On (Rating Upgrade)

Several months ago, back in early October of 2025, I briefly entertained the possibility of upgrading shares of Hancock Whitney ( HWC ) from a 'hold' to a 'buy.' This was based on continued growth when it came to revenue and profits, as well as strong asset quality and a rise in net interest income. But between uninsured deposit exposure remaining higher than I would prefer, issues when it came to deposit quality, and the overall valuation of the business, I decided to take the more cautious approach and reaffirm it as a 'hold' candidate. Considering that I define a 'hold' firm as one that should not perform materially differently than the broader market for the foreseeable future, I would say that my call has proven to be fairly accurate. While it is true that the S&P 500 is down 0.1% since then, shares of Hancock Whitney have risen by only 1.2%....
