The Pentagon's Energy Problem Just Got a High-Tech Fix From This Microcap

The U.S. military operates one of the largest real estate footprints on earth, and much of it runs on aging, inefficient building systems burning energy, and money, at rates that would be unacceptable in any modern commercial facility. Domestic hot water alone represents one of the most energy-intensive and hardest-to-modernize challenges across the entire Department of War infrastructure, with more than 70,000 legacy hot water heaters and 150,000 space heating and cooling units operating across installations nationwide, many at poor efficiency levels due to years of deferred maintenance. The economic and operational case for modernization has never been stronger.

Shares of SHARC International Systems Inc. ( CSE: SHRC )( OTCQB: INTWF ) are moving Tuesday after the company announced it has received a purchase order from the National Laboratory of the Rockies, a federally funded research laboratory operated by Alliance for Energy Innovation, LLC.

The purchase order supports deployment of SHARC Energy's PIRANHA wastewater heat recovery system at the Naval Postgraduate School's historic Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, California, as part of a Department of War-supported program targeting high-efficiency domestic hot water retrofit solutions for large institutional facilities.

SHARC Energy's PIRANHA system is an integrated, all-electric Wastewater Energy Transfer solution that captures thermal energy from a building's wastewater stream and upgrades it via a water-to-water heat pump to deliver high-efficiency domestic hot water. The recently developed PIRANHA HC system can produce up to 100% of a building's hot water demand at 140°F year-round, while simultaneously providing supplemental cooling and dehumidification — all from a single packaged unit compatible with both blackwater and greywater systems and requiring no maceration or pre-filtration.

The installed system at Hotel Del Monte is expected to deliver approximately 120,000 Btu/h of domestic hot water capacity. By leveraging wastewater as a stable thermal source, the PIRANHA operates at high efficiency in any climate, sidestepping the cold-weather efficiency losses that limit conventional air-source heat pumps. The broader program targets up to 60% energy cost savings for domestic hot water systems, supporting the economic case for large-scale retrofit deployment across military, institutional, and commercial building portfolios.

The project also includes collaboration with Honeywell as a technology transition partner, leveraging its energy performance contracting expertise to support future commercialization and deployment. Real-world performance data generated by the program is expected to inform the economics and scalability of wastewater energy recovery across a wide range of facilities throughout North America.

"Our PIRANHA technology is ideally suited for retrofit applications where energy efficiency, cost savings, and system resilience are critical," said Michael Albertson, CEO of SHARC Energy. "We are proud to support the National Laboratory of the Rockies and its partners in advancing scalable solutions for high-performance buildings."

Shares of SHRC are ahead 11.1% to C$0.10 in Tuesday trading, while shares of INTWF are flat at $0.0737.
