OneMain Financial: A Secure Dividend With Capital Appreciation Potential

Shares of OneMain Financial ( OMF ) have been a solid performer over the past year, gaining about 9%. That said, shares took a dip after President Trump floated capping credit card rates at 10%. While OMF is primarily an unsecured personal loan issuer, rather than a credit card company, this suggestion caused a sell-off across the consumer lending sector. Little has come of that proposal, and the company’s Q4 results served as a reminder that underlying financial performance is strong. I last covered shares in December , upgrading OneMain to “buy,” but given the recent pullback, shares are basically flat since then. With updated financials, now is a good time to see if my buy call was a little early or if the thesis needs to be reconsidered. I remain bullish....
