Where the S&P is heading
From what we can see, so far, most major Wall Street strategists are currently forecasting that the S&P 500 will finish 2026 up quite a bit above current levels. Current targets cluster around the 7,400 to 8,100 range. Just to list a few, Deutsche Bank is projecting 8,000 by year?end 2026, which would be about a 20% gain from recent levels. They’re tipping more towards resilient corporate earnings and ongoing enthusiasm around AI?led growth. Morgan Stanley and other firms are following a similar kind of upside, with forecasts near 7,800. They’re expecting earnings growth and outperformance of U.S. equities. The more conservative forecasts from regional banks have the index ending up around 7,400 to 7,500. This would imply a fairly broad expectation of double?digit overall returns and assume earnings growth of roughly 12% to 15% next year. As you can see below, all the estimates somewhat average out in the 7600 range....
