Redwire Wins ESA Contract to Power Earth Observation Satellites for Global Climate Mission

Redwire Corporation ( RDW ) has been awarded a significant contract from SpaceTech GmbH to supply mission-critical avionics for the European Space Agency's upcoming Next Generation Gravity Mission ( NGGM ). The NGGM will form part of the broader Mass Change and Geophysics International Constellation, a multinational satellite program being developed jointly by ESA, NASA, and the German Aerospace Center.

Under the agreement, Redwire's Belgium-based division, Redwire Space NV, will deliver the engineering qualification model for the Instrument Control Unit, a key component of the NGGM satellite. The ICU is responsible for managing data exchange and controlling communications between the spacecraft's primary instrument and its internal systems.

The NGGM will focus on monitoring changes in Earths gravitational field, a valuable indicator of environmental shifts such as ice melt, sea-level rise, drought, and flooding. By contributing to MAGIC's four-satellite constellation, Redwire's technology will help provide global insights into climate dynamics and water distribution.

ESAs portion of the MAGIC constellation includes two satellites, while the remaining pair will be delivered through NASAs GRACE mission. This international collaboration is designed to support high-resolution geophysical monitoring through advanced satellite-to-satellite tracking systems.

The selection of Redwire continues a legacy of successful partnerships with ESA. The company has supplied high-performance avionics for numerous ESA missions, including Proba-1 through Proba-3, which together represent more than five decades of combined flight heritage. Redwires space hardware is also featured in other flagship ESA programs, such as the Hera planetary defense mission and the Gateway lunar platform.
