The Global X S&P 500 Covered Call ETF ( XYLD ) is an exchange-traded fund that some investors consider to be a decent way to obtain a very high level of income along with exposure to the upside potential of the S&P 500 Index ( SP500 ). The fund does reasonably well on the income front, as it has a 13.13% yield, which has historically varied, but it is frequently over 10%. However, neither its share price nor its total return performance matches that of the S&P 500 Index. Over the ten-year period that ended on September 5, 2025, the Global X S&P 500 Covered Call ETF suffered from a share price decline of 7.91% whereas the S&P 500 Index gained 230.51%:
