Edgewater Wireless Expands Dual-Use Momentum with AirMetal MOU for High-Reliability Wireless Applications
(TheNewswire)
Spectrum Slicing™ positioned topower interference-tolerant, high-reliability radios for UAV,robotics, defence and mission-critical markets
March 31, 2026 – TheNewswire - Ottawa, Canada and Santa Clara, USA– Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc.(TSXV: YFI) (OTC:KPIFF), a leader in interference-resilientwireless silicon and Spectrum Slicing™ technology, today announcedthat it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”)with advanced robotics and unmanned systems group AirMetal Robotics(“AirMetal”) to pursue dual-use wireless opportunities requiringhigh-reliability, interference-tolerant radio performance.
The MOU establishes a framework for the parties toevaluate collaboration opportunities in unmanned systems, robotics, defence, security, public safety, critical infrastructure and otherapplications where resilient wireless connectivity is increasinglymission-critical.
The initiative represents one of several emergingdual-use opportunities now under way as the Company broadens thecommercial opportunities and target markets for its PrismIQ™ siliconand Spectrum Slicing™ architecture beyond traditional Wi-Fi marketsand into high-value, next-generation communicationsplatforms.
“AirMetal brings deep, real-world operationalinsight into how UAVs are deployed at scale—and where today’s RFlinks break down,” said Andrew Skafel, President & CEO ofEdgewater Wireless. “This MOU creates a structured, commerciallygrounded path to explore next-generation, multi-channel communicationsdesigned for high-reliability performance—starting with disciplinedNRE programs and moving toward scalable deployment.”
“We believe the combination of AirMetal’s platform and deploymentinsight with Edgewater’s Spectrum Slicing™ innovation creates ahighly differentiated position in the market,” said Kevin Toderel,CEO, AirMetal Robotics. “Together, we have the potential to advancea new class of sovereign dual-use radios designed to perform whereconventional wireless links fall short—particularly in targeted UAV,robotics, defence and critical infrastructure applications.”
Under the MOU, Edgewater and AirMetal will exploretechnical and commercial opportunities to integrate Edgewater’sinterference-tolerant wireless technology into advanced dual-useplatforms and communications systems.
The timing aligns with a significant expansion inCanadian federal support for domestic semiconductor, aerospace, autonomous systems and defence-related innovation. Recent federalinitiatives, including new defence industrial programs, droneinnovation initiatives and support for Canadian advanced technologydevelopment, are helping accelerate the market opportunity forsovereign, high-performance communications technologies. Edgewaterbelieves these developments strengthen the long-term commercialbackdrop for Canadian companies developing enabling technologies fordual-use and mission-critical applications.
Industry analysts continue to forecast strong growthfor drones and the enabling communications stack. One estimate placesthe global drone market at ~US$73.06B in 2024, projected toreach ~US$163.60B by 20301. A separate marketview values the drone communications segment at ~US$3.6B in 2024,projected to reach ~US$11.6B by 20302, underscoring the scale of opportunity in the connectivitylayer.
The Company views the AirMetal MOU as strategicallyimportant for three reasons:
1) Expands Edgewater’saddressable market into a rapidly growing, strategically relevantsegment
2) Reinforces the applicabilityof Spectrum Slicing™ in high-reliability environments, beyondconventional broadband deployments
3) Supports Edgewater’s broaderstrategy to position its silicon and IP platform at the centre ofnext-generation wireless architectures for commercial, industrial anddual-use use cases
“This is about broadening Edgewater’s core siliconadvantage into a new, emerging strategic market and is accretive tobroader opportunity,” added Eric Smith, VP Product for EdgewaterWireless. “We are seeing growing interest in wireless systems thatcan maintain performance where conventional architectures begin tobreak down. That creates a compelling opportunity to extend ourplatform into dual-use programs and partnerships with meaningfullong-term value.”
The MOU is non-binding and is intended to supportevaluation of potential collaboration opportunities, includingtechnical integration, product planning, commercial structures andcustomer engagement strategies. There can be no assurance that the MOUwill lead to a definitive agreement, commercial deployment orrevenue-generating relationship. However, management believes the MOUreflects accelerating interest in the Company’s technology indual-use and other high-value wireless markets.
This announcement follows Edgewater’s broader effortsto expand its strategic reach into dual-use applications, reflectingincreasing industry and customer recognition that interferenceresilience, deterministic performance and wireless reliability arebecoming critical design requirements across a widening range ofconnected systems.
