When evaluating closed-end funds ("CEFs") for potential income investments, it is often wise to pay attention to the current price relative to the NAV (net asset value) of the fund, which is described as the Discount if market price is below NAV or Premium if the Price is higher than the current NAV. Because the market price is highly sensitive to investor sentiment regarding the fund, the asset class represented by fund holdings, the current macro environment, and even the current fear vs greed measure relative to CEFs in general, the discount or premium can often fluctuate, sometimes wildly. Therefore, knowing when to buy a CEF can be advantageous since we can only buy at market price, and the best time to buy is typically when the fund trades at a wider-than-average discount (or a lower-than-average premium)....
