Silver and gold volatility reached extreme levels
My goals for this article are twofold. I want to A) explain why investors should be prepared for persisting high volatilities for both silver and gold, and B) explain why I see a favorable setup to sell options under current market conditions. In recent trading data, I have witnessed some of the most extreme volatilities in silver and gold prices in my experience (and I have been investing in both metals for more than a decade by now). As an example, the next chart illustrates the percentage decrease from recent price highs for the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) and SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) over the past month. You can see how both metals, after staging some of the most spectacular bull runs in the past year, suffered their sharp downturns. Specifically, SLV plummeted almost 33% off its high, and GLD dropped more than 12% off its high....
